You know that mom in your friend group who somehow plans three amazing trips a year while working full-time?
She's not magic. She's not lucky. And she definitely doesn't have a secret travel agent.
She has a system.
And this is the AI version of that system — built by a working mom, for working moms.
Three prompts. One afternoon. A complete family trip plan.
ChatGPT (the free version works perfectly). Open it at chat.openai.com.
One important tip: ChatGPT remembers your conversation. So once you run Prompt #1, the results carry into Prompt #2 and #3. You don't need to repeat yourself — just keep going in the same chat window.
The problem it solves: You have a rough idea ("somewhere in Europe, not too far, kids-friendly") but 47 tabs open and no decision made. This prompt collapses that into 3 concrete options in 30 seconds.
Copy this prompt:
"Suggest 3 family-friendly destinations in Europe for a 5-day trip in July. We have 2 kids aged 4 and 7. Our total budget is €2,000 including flights. We prefer nature and easy outdoor activities over museums and cities. Include approximate flight time from Bulgaria and one reason each destination is great for kids under 8."
(Adjust ages, budget, and departure country for your family)
"What you get: Three specific destinations with real reasons why they work for young kids — not just generic "family friendly" labels.
My result when I ran this: ChatGPT suggested Slovenia (Lake Bled), the Dalmatian coast in Croatia, and the Rhodope Mountains as a no-flight option. Each with flight times, budget notes, and kid-specific activities. I had a decision in under 5 minutes.
The problem it solves: You've picked a destination but you have no idea how to structure 5 days with two kids of different ages without someone melting down by day two.
Copy this prompt:
"Create a 5-day family itinerary for [destination you chose]. We have a 4-year-old and a 7-year-old. Maximum 2 planned activities per day — we need rest time built in. Include one slow morning per trip. Note which activities are better for the older child vs. the younger one, and flag anything that requires advance booking."
(Replace [destination] with what you chose in Prompt #1)
What you get: A realistic day-by-day plan that accounts for nap time, energy levels, and the fact that a 4-year-old cannot do a 3-hour hike.
Why this works: Most travel itineraries are written for adults or for families with older kids. This prompt forces ChatGPT to plan around your actual kids — their ages, their energy, and the reality of traveling with small children.
The problem it solves: Packing for a family trip is a project management exercise that somehow always ends with someone forgetting something critical. (In our case: children's melatonin. Twice.)
Copy this prompt:
"Create a carry-on only packing list for our 5-day family trip to [destination]. 2 adults, 2 kids aged 4 and 7. One adult backpack, one kids' bag. Include: clothing for both kids, travel entertainment for the flight, snacks, documents checklist, and a 'pack last' list for the morning of departure. We're traveling in July — warm weather."
(Adjust destination, season, and ages)
What you get: A complete, sorted packing list that covers every category — including the ones you always forget until you're at the airport.
Pro tip: Add any specifics that apply to your family: "One child has a nut allergy" or "We're bringing a car seat" or "We prefer to pack activities, not screens" — ChatGPT will adjust the entire list.
Three prompts. One conversation. You now have:
✅ A destination decision (with reasoning)
✅ A day-by-day itinerary built for your kids' ages
✅ A complete packing list, carry-on only
What used to take me a full Sunday evening now takes about 20 minutes — including the time I spend second-guessing myself and asking ChatGPT follow-up questions.
Once you have your plan, use ChatGPT to go deeper on anything that needs more detail:
"What are the best restaurants near Lake Bled for families with young kids?"
What should I know about flying with a 4-year-old for the first time?"
"Suggest 5 no-prep travel activities for a 7-year-old on a plane."
The conversation keeps going. And it remembers everything from your first prompt.
